Frequently asked
Why isn't Pay Your Price available online? +
It's a community experience we share at the table — part of what makes SciEats different. Online orders use fixed pricing for convenience, but you can still Pay It Forward by adding a contribution at checkout.
Is the food different at different tiers? +
No. Same food. Same table. Whether you choose Low, Fair, or Support, you get the same plate, the same portion, and the same warm welcome.
Who covers the difference? +
The Support tier and SciCook's community partners and donors. SciEats is part of SciCook, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit — every Support contribution helps subsidize meals for neighbors on the Low tier.
Can I pay it forward online? +
Yes. Add the Pay It Forward item to your online order — $5, $10, or $20. Every contribution funds meals for neighbors who need them.
Is this a nonprofit? +
Yes. SciEats is part of SciCook, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 99-3984746). Donations and Support-tier contributions fund nutrition education, community outreach, and job training programs in addition to subsidizing meals.
How does eating at SciEats support the community? +
Revenue from SciEats meal sales helps fund SciCook’s All In Community Meals and nutrition education classes. Through All In, SciCook provides free, thoughtfully prepared meals to people experiencing nutritional insecurity.
