SciEats
Our story

A nonprofit eatery built around the table.

Chefs enjoying their work in a busy restaurant kitchen, highlighting teamwork and culinary passion.
Top view of assorted spice powders in metal bowls showcasing vibrant colors against a dark background.

Why SciEats exists

SciEats is part of SciCook, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to make nutritious, science-inspired meals accessible to all. The North Park location is our newest chapter — a kitchen built for the neighborhood, funded by the neighborhood, with a menu designed around real nutrition science.

We started SciCook to answer a simple question: what would it look like if a restaurant treated nutrition information like a feature, not an afterthought? SciEats is the answer.

Friends sharing bread and enjoying a meal around a dining table, conveying warmth and togetherness.

A nonprofit eatery, not a marketing gimmick

Every dollar that flows through SciEats supports SciCook's broader mission — nutrition education in San Diego schools, community outreach in food-insecure neighborhoods, and job training for people facing barriers to employment.

Pay Your Price isn't a clever pricing scheme. It's how a community-funded eatery actually works: those who can pay a little extra cover meals for those who can't, and everyone eats from the same kitchen.

What "Sci" means

The Sci in SciEats stands for science-informed cooking. Every dish on the menu has a published nutrition profile — calories, macros, vitamins, allergens, and a plain-English note on what to expect.

We rebuild traditional recipes with controlled sugar, minimal oil, whole-food ingredients, and a clear focus on protein and fiber — without sacrificing the flavor that makes them worth ordering in the first place.

Indian roots, global flavors

Our kitchen draws from Indian home cooking — the dal, the spice work, the slow-simmered curries — and stretches into Thai, Mediterranean, and Latin influences where it makes the food better. Some dishes are familiar; some are deliberately unexpected.

What ties them together is a commitment to flavor first, transparency second, and a kitchen culture that respects every person who walks in.

Beyond the plate

SciCook's work extends well beyond this storefront. Our parent organization runs nutrition education for schools and community groups, outreach programs providing food assistance, and job training that prepares people facing barriers for kitchen and hospitality careers.
